How does the new site work?

Postby ironchefchris » Fri Aug 28, 2015 7:46 am

Couple of questions:

Where's the homepage?

I usually go to "active topics" instead of entering the specific forums (expat info, conversations, Peru news, etc.) but now it says there are zero topics in the last 7 days. Will I need to just go to each forum individually now to see what the latest active threads are? At first I thought it might take new threads and/or responses to make a thread show up as active, but it looks like a thread or two has recently been created, yet nothing comes up under an 'active thread' search.

Sorry if these are dumb questions with obvious answers. Updated websites tend to throw me for a loop at first.

Hi Chris,

We´ll work out the bugs and the settings over the weekend.

All the best,
Alan

Looks like you've already been hit with some spam.

Personally wanted to thank you for the change, the time and effort. Sure it is a work in progress but it will be worth it. So far so good for me.

thanks :D We spent quite a bit of time updating the information on the main pages, so that should help make the site more useful too. The real estate component was also changed, and while it still needs some tweaking, it will be nicer than the old one.

The only real problem now is that the spammers are still slipping through. That´s not the end of the world though and we are testing different captcha solutions.

I have a bookmark set to 'View Active Topics' so that I can quickly and easily see all the threads that have been active for the past week, 14 days, month, etc.. When I go to this now it says "no suitable matches were found." There is the new (at least to me) 'New posts' link. I don't know how long posts are considered new until they are no longer included in New Posts. I no longer see, or am unable to find, the link to Active Topics on the Board Index page.

What I liked about 'View Active Topics' was that it was easy to see all the recent activity as far as new and/or responded to posts. Easier (to me at least) than having to go into each sub-forum to see what's been posted lately or to remember if a specific post, that's no longer new, resides in 'expat info' or 'expat conversations.' Don't know if Active Topics is something still being worked on or something intentionally left behind, but I would like to see it continue.

Thanks for the continued efforts to make the site better. I wish other sites I participated on were as attentive to it's users.

Love the new mobile format. I can actually see stuff on my iPhone without expanding everything!

One thing I noticed is a lot of the links on the webpage for expatperu for residency and carnets don't work. With all the talk of new visa laws, it might be be an idea to update the links for those posters who want to apply for a carnet, work visa, etc. Unless, of course, the rules for carnets have changed as well, in which case, are there new links needed? In the meantime, here's a checklist from Living In Peru,

I've also had a quick look online and it looks like Migraciones have updated their webpage, as it looks very different to when I last used it, although the rules all look the same.

Thanks, Sergio. Let me check and see. Before relaunch we checked and parsed, but I guess we missed a few.
