Waiting for residency, can I stay in Peru even if my visa is set to expire?

Postby MJoyLaufer » Wed Nov 16, 2016 5:21 pm

Hi all,

Does anyone have first-hand experience about what happens when you have dropped all your paperwork at Migraciones for a visa (I am getting a calidad de migratorio/ work visa through my job). BUT my tarjeta de tourismo visa(US passport holder) is set to expire before I should get my visa. Do they give you a temporary visa while you wait for your visa? Or do I have to leave? If you know of an exact place on the website with this info, or have first-hand experience I'd love to hear so I don't need to go back and wait in information again in Migraciones  . Thank you all,

MJoy

As long as you have your receipt you are ok. However you cannot travel outside of Peru until you receive your new visa.

Hi all,

amendment on the previous information. You can, in fact, leave the country while you wait for your residency paperwork but you must be approved to travel by migraciones. To do this, you pay a s/29 fee at banco de la nación and fill out a form F-007 that can be found online at the migraciones website or in migraciones (check Permiso especial de viaje IRCE, CCM, y CCV en trámite). You can be approved the same day in migraciones, and the length of time permitted is 30 days.

Thank you,
MJoy
