While the rules in this forum are more relaxed than in other parts of the Expat site, there are still a few things we’d like you to remember: No name calling, no insults – be civil to each other!
Curley Just about every culture has this in their diet. Most, very easy to make. Can you explane what and where you remember having it. To narrow this down.
Pudin de Vanilla is an almost perfect substitute. Universal and Royal do it although I've not seen it in my local Plaza Vea for a while as seem to prefer to fill 10 shelves with flan instead.
If you're thinking trifle then you'll want some biscotela for the sponges. Metro sometimes have it in the pre-packaged cake aisle but I prefer Plaza Vea's "made on site" version which is normally with their fresh cakes/bread if they have it.
You read my mind. I'm thinking of making trifles. Biscotela would be great. Not sure how I feel about the pudin de vainilla as it is not quite the same. It would be good but it would lack that special, particular flavour.
Pudin is the closest I've found unless someone knows an importer of Bird's original. It's at least as good as most of the UK supermarket own brands, if not better than some.
And no, we mean trifles.

I was always a big fan of the Peach custard pie they made at Cafe Zeta, but apparently I was the only one! Now, I have to settle for pye de coco, but it is not like Coconut Custard in the USA.
