Cusco: authorities discarded the story , two us tourists are lost
HoraHace 6 hours | Garrett Hand and Jamie Neal took an interprovincial bus on 25 January and arrived in Lima at 11:49 a.m. of the following day, said the regional director of tourism, Madison Barreto

Cusco (Andina). The regional director of foreign trade and tourism in Cusco, Madison Barreto, ruled that two American tourists are lost in this southern jurisdiction, as some local media reported. He said the Andina agency that both Garrett Hand and Jamie Neal boarded a bus of an interprovincial transportation company on 25 January at 14:00 hours bound for Lima, where arrived at 11:49 hours of the 26th. According to Barreto, proof of this is the videos recorded by the company as a security measure. "They carried as luggage seven cases and two bikes, which were removed by themselves," he said. He said that it is known that once in Lima, foreigners boarded a bus from another company that was to take them to Pucallpa, capital of Ucayali region, in the central jungle. "That's the information we have and we want to clarify, as it being published by some media and social networks that have supposedly disappeared in Cusco, when it has not happened," said.

So Obviously it was known before the news broke that they were missing.

These must be real competent kidnappers. No ransom request. No money withdrawn from their victim's bank.

The couple disappeared after they returned to Lima, not in the Cuzco area, so it didn't have anything to do with the threat mentioned in the warning from the Embassy. There's much more up to date info on them on the facebook page created by the family. https://www.facebook.com/MissingInPeruG ... dJamieNeal

They've been found alive and well and picked up by the military. No kidnapping, never were in any danger. Family just didn't realize that when they said they were going to the jungle, they meant they were actually going to the jungle - the real jungle, where there's no electricity, phones, banks or internet.

The family had made a Facebook page (linked in my previous post) to help keep information together during the search - which they abruptly deleted after they were found. Would have been really nice for them to have posted the information on that page and expressed some thanks for all the support they had received instead of deleting the page and leaving everyone hanging.

I imagine the mom and sister behind it were either embarrassed or just wanted to avoid 'comments from trolls on the page - or maybe their lawyer advised them to delete it in case of any lawsuits over the cost of all the manpower that was put into trying to find the two innocents abroad.

We won't even begin to go into the damage they've done to Peru tourism.
