Buying ingredients for Tofu

Postby stevesgonewalkabout » Mon Jan 12, 2015 12:33 pm

Hey all,

We are living just out of Cusco, and are trying to make Tofu at home. Normally this is not a problem but I am trying to find Gypsum, Epsom or Nigari as a coagulant for making Tofu. For the last two weeks this has been WAY beyond the limits of my grasp of Castillano, and I've had absolutely zero luck!

Any advice on where to get it, if there are online Peruvian sellers (so far using the post is running 1 for 3 attempts) or if there are local brands I can search for.

Thanks!

I know you're just after the ingredients, not a method of how to make it, but the video below includes all the names and terms. Finding an online distributor, who'll deliver to you will probably be difficult in Peru. So your next best bet is to find out if there is a Chinese supermarket, or where Chifas in Cusco buy their ingredients.

There are many vegetarian restaurants in Cusco where You can ask for the ingredients.
